How are the Tattoos removed?
The Q-switched Nd Yag uses an intense beam of light to significantly lighten or completely remove your tattoo. When ink particles of your tattoo absorb the light from the laser, they are broken up into tiny fragments. These fragments are then absorbed through your body's natural cleansing mechanism. This process generally takes a few weeks. The treated area scabs over which generally falls over after a few days taking some of the ink with it.
Multiple treatments are generally required to obtain your desired results.
What will my skin look like after the treatment?
Right after each session your skin may be reddish or blister. Also there may be minimal swelling which will resolve over a couple days. Maximum results will be seen in 6-8 weeks at which time we would perform the next session.
What does the laser feel like?
Some patients say it feels like a slight sting like the snap of a rubber band or a sunburn like sensation. A topical numbing cream applied prior to treatment will lessen this sensation.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments required for maximum improvement depends on the size, location, depth, and color of your tattoo. Treatments are generally 6-8 weeks apart and sessions generally last 15-20 minutes. Patients will generally start to appreciate lightening of the tattoo just after the first session however 5-15 treatments are generally required for optimum results.
