See Dr. Shah on Channel 23 News Talk About the New Donda West Law

In November 2007, Dr. Donda West, the 58 year old mother of rap superstar Kanye West, died of complications following plastic surgery. Unbeknownst to her doctor, West suffered from coronary artery disease, a heart condition that had gone undetected. Had the retired professor undergone a physical prior to the surgery, her death may have been avoided.

To prevent similar such problems, the state of California has recently passed a new law requiring all elective plastic surgery patients to have a medical examination prior to treatment and written clearance for surgery. The medical community, including the physicians at Beautologie, applaud the new law as an added measure of safety for all patients. Beautologie doctors have always recommended medical clearances for their patients, and also urge patients considering cosmetic surgery to make sure the surgery is performed at an American Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) accredited surgery center.

Dr. West's niece, Yolanda Anderson, was one of the primary movers behind the bill, contacting California Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter in early 2008. Carter proposed the bill shortly thereafter, but it was vetoed by Governor Schwartzenegger due to an overwhelming number of bills. The bill was re-submitted in 2009 and signed into law in October.

Medical Weight Loss: Customized Solutions That Really Work

Many men and women struggle with weight loss, only to be disappointed. The problem isn’t lack of effort or desire, but rather the need for a customized solution. Because each of us has a unique physiology, what works for one person often doesn’t for another.

The doctors at Beautologie have many years of experience helping patients safely and comfortably reach their weight loss goals. During this time, dozens of patients have cumulatively lost thousands of pounds.

Through the medically supervised weight loss program, patients receive lifestyle education, personal attention and follow up and nutritionally complete diets. Where appropriate, clinically validated medications and/or nutritional supplements are prescribed. Progress is monitored regularly via blood work, body fat analysis and medical examinations.

The result is safe, successful weight loss without the guesswork of trying to determine which diets or exercise programs will work best for you.

Because each weight loss program is customized for each individual, patients tend to not only lose the weight, but keep it off.

See Us on YouTube!

Beautologie has recently launched a YouTube channel. In addition to the videos on our website that describe specific procedures, our growing library of YouTube videos feature Beautologie physicians discussing different issues related to cosmetic treatment.

For example, did you know that the Healthcare Reform proposal currently before Congress could include a federal tax on cosmetic surgery? Although the bill doesn’t yet include a “Botax”, many industry insiders believe that an amendment adding the tax could be proposed during voting. A similar tax has been proposed in half a dozen state legislatures but so far, only New Jersey taxes cosmetic treatments (at 6%). To watch a video of Dr. Milan Shah discussing the tax, click here.

The Beautologie YouTube channel also includes stories from real patients, who describe their experiences with treatment. To watch a video of how plastic surgery helped one woman, click here.

YouTube is a website that allows users to upload videos that can be viewed by anyone, any time, anywhere.
