Just in Time for Valentine’s Day: Full, Kissable Lips
Thinning lips are a common problem of age, as the body’s supply of collagen wanes.
But thanks to dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm, this problem can be reversed.
Containing hyaluronic acid, an essential building block of the skin, dermal fillers are used to plump wrinkles around the mouth and eyes. By essentially replacing lost volume, Restylane and Juvederm can fill in wrinkles to create a smoother appearance. This can eliminate the vertical marionette lines or smokers’ lines that often form around the lips.
In the same manner, dermal fillers can also enhance the smile, making thin lips appear fuller and more sensuous. Depending upon the degree of change desired, lips can be restored to a more youthful appearance, or they can be enhanced Angelina Jolie-style.

Love Life Rx: Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery doesn’t just enhance the appearance: it can also have a dramatic effect on the moods, boosting confidence and thereby stimulating the libido.
Many cosmetic surgery patients pursue treatment because they feel self conscious. Some may believe their breasts are too small; others think their thighs are too wide or their noses are the wrong shape. Whether those problems are large or quite small, they often result in feelings of anxiety that can seriously dampen even the most romantic evening.
Correcting the problem, though, often lifts the black cloud.
It’s not uncommon for patients to report that after having a long-awaited procedure, they feel truly beautiful for the first time. Many gain the confidence to wear the clothes they had never before dared. Others just hold their head a little higher and smile a bit brighter.
For most, feeling desirable is a potent aphrodisiac. That’s because the chemicals secreted by the brain, and consequently the body’s response to them, is similar for both types of feelings.

Best Way to Boost Skin Health: Fall in Love!
The glow of love isn’t just a myth: the entire body, including the skin, experiences profound physiological changes when we fall in love.
According to the cover article in a February 2006 issue of National Geographic, feelings of love trigger the release of several chemicals in the brain including estrogen, dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, norepinephrine, and vasopressin. Each of these has an effect on the body.
Estrogen, in particular, is linked to aging. Immediately prior to menopause, when estrogen levels drop, women often notice dramatic changes in their skin. This is not surprising, since the skin has many receptors for estrogen. Activation of these receptors helps maintain skin thickness, elasticity and hydration. In fact, a study conducted as part of the first National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 1997 found that estrogen use helps prevent dry skin and skin wrinkling and that a program of systemic estrogen replacement therapy can help counteract estrogen level declines to benefit skin health.
Serotonin dilates blood vessels to bring a healthy blush to the cheeks. Along with dopamine and oxytocin, it also causes a “feel good” feeling, so the world and everything in it just looks a little rosier.
Norepinephrine increases heart rate, which in turn stimulates circulation and can boost the delivery of oxygen to the skin. Oxygen is essential for skin metabolism, helping skin cells to renew and stay healthy.
Vasopressin regulates the flow of water to the cells and intracellular spaces in the body. When this hormone reaches a cell membrane, it presses water through a filtration receptor to hydrate the cell. With age, however, vasopressin levels decline, causing the skin to dry.
The chemical cocktail released when we feel love all adds up to great looking skin. Of course, love gone wrong can trigger the release of another set of chemicals, but that’s a story for another issue….
