Wrinkles around the eyes (Crow's Feet) and "lipstick lines" have multiple causes, all of which go back to the breakdown of supporting structures in the skin such as collagen, fat and elastin fibers.

This breakdown may be brought on by:

  • smoking (especially harmful to lips)
  • sun exposure
  • poor diet
  • disease
  • losing and gaining weight many times
  • wind exposure
  • other stresses

Stress is Part of Living
Another major stress on skin structure comes from using our own facial muscles. Smiling, laughing and frowning stretch and contract the skin over and over again, eventually "setting" the skin into formations that reflect these habitual movements.

Multiple Factors Require Multiple Solutions
Since we stress our skin in multiple ways, it takes multiple techniques to correct facial wrinkles.

Cosmetic surgeons call the wrinkles caused by muscular contractions "hyperfunctional lines." Since the underlying cause involves the muscle, the way to prevent this type of wrinkle from appearing or re-appearing is to relax the muscle.

Botox for Crow's Feet
Botox is today's treatment of choice for relaxing muscles. It's safe, virtually painless and requires no down time.

Injecting Crow's Feet with Botox gives dramatic and satisfying results, and is a very safe treatment.

Chemical peels and CO2 Laser Peels

Peels work on yet another level of the wrinkle problem, removing the top layer of epidermis where the ridges of the wrinkle are most prominent. By smoothing out these extreme ridges, changes can be brought about in the texture of the lip or the area around the eyes.

Depending on one's age, a peel may provide exactly enough meliorative action to restore the original outline of the lips, or a youthful look of clarity around the eyes.

Fillers
But many people need more help. Lips that have lost volume can gain great benefit from injections of filler agents such as Restylane or Juvederm. Not only do these fillers give thin lips a plump, sexy look, they'll often correct that downward sag that tends to appear at the corners of the mouth as we age.

People with deep Crow's Feet are also excellent candidates for Restylane and Juvederm, which are quick and require no down time.
